Peach margarita

Ready for our new best fresh and tasty spin on the margarita? The Peach Margarita. This one combines the sweetness of peaches, tart lime, and edge of tequila to make one fantastic cocktail. Even better: it uses frozen peaches so you can make it any time of year! Not just that short window during peach season. Of course, you can use fresh peaches if you have them! Alex whipped this up for me the other day and I was hooked on this new version of my favorite cocktail. (That and this mango margarita.)

What’s in a peach margarita?

The margarita is a classic cocktail; it’s actually on the list of International Bartender Association’s IBA official cocktails. This means that there’s an “official” definition of the ingredients in a margarita: lime juice, Cointreau, and tequila. This peach margarita is a spin on the Classic Margarita using this sweet fruit, but it’s more of a frozen margarita in style. It’s a blender drink, and it comes out with more of a frozen texture. Here are the ingredients you’ll need:

Using frozen peaches vs fresh

The advantage of using frozen peaches here: you can make this peach margarita any time of the year! Peach season is short (basically just July here in Indiana), so it’s nice to have an option for any time of the year. It also makes this margarita easy to whip up anytime, instead of having to wait for the fruit to ripen on your counter top.

But if you have fresh peaches on hand: they work too! Just use 1 cup fresh peaches instead, and it will be just as delicious (likely more so!).

How to make a peach margarita

The peach margarita is made in a blender with ice, so it’s not the standard way to make a margarita like our Classic Margarita. But this fruity spin is just as tasty! Here’s what to do (or go to the full recipe below):

  1. Rim the glass with salt. A salted rim is a must here! Why? The salt enhances the sweet and sour flavors in the drink! More on that, below.
  2. Blend! Throw all the ingredients in a blender and blend until it’s full combined and creamy. There are two options for the texture of this margarita: keep reading…

Two options: drink it icy or juicy!

There are two options for the texture of this peach margarita! It all depends on how long you blend it. Here are the options:

  • Icy texture. If you like your margaritas frozen, you can blend this peach margarita until it has the consistency of a smoothie. It tastes great like this!
  • Juicy texture. Keep blending your peach margarita for a minute or so, and the icy texture will dissolve into a juicy texture. This is what you see in the photographs. I prefer my peach margarita this way because when it’s less icy, it has even more flavor.

Sweeten this peach margarita with…

Unlike our Classic Margarita, this peach margarita has a little added sweetener besides the Cointreau. This is because the fruit needs a little sweetener to enhance its flavor (much like savory foods need salt). We’ve offered a few different options for the sweetener: you can use any of them!

  • Agave syrup: Agave is often used as a sweetener with margaritas because it’s used to make tequila! It’s easy to find these days at most grocery stores.
  • Simple syrup: This is the classic cocktail sweetener; you can make your own at home! Simple syrup has more of a straightforward sweetness.
  • Maple syrup: Our favorite syrup to sweeten cocktails is maple syrup: it gives a nuanced sweetness. (See our Whiskey Sour and Gin Fizz).
  • Honey: If all you have is honey, this works too!

  1. Hello!

Over the weekend, I prepared 3 different recipes for pickled veggies and people raved at our annual family Midsommer party.

Today, my recently widowed aunt is on my mind. She recently set up a bar in her livingroom, though she doesn’t like the idea of drinking alone. I’ve already given her a set of carafes (for making and serving sangria) and a small ice bucket so she and her friends can enjoy sitting out on the patio with a drink. I’m getting her a shaker set for her birthday, and figured I needed to find the ingredients for a fruity drink. I googled ‘fuzzy navel’ and was tickled to find myself back at your site. And as I read, I found your recipe for peach margaritas as well ( she and her friends love their margaritas!) So I will be getting a bottle of Cointreau as well as peach schnapps!

I was truly delighted to catch your little mention of being in Indiana- I’m originally from a farm between Greensburg and Columbus, and my aunt lives in Fort Wayne!

I’ll be printing out these two recipes and including them in her birthday gift… she’s having half a dozen friends over to that patio for a margarita night, and I’ll see to it that peach margaritas are an option on the menu!

I’ve only known of your site for a few days, and have managed to stir up memories of my mom pickling eggs and greenbeans and sipping peach schnapps from her favorite little cordial glass. (Not sure if I can part with that… but I’m thinking about it)

Thanks for the terrific recipes, and the wonderful memories, both old and new-

    Robin

    1. How fun is this? I love hearing that you’re from Indiana and that our recipes will be part of your aunt’s gift! I love the memories we were able to stir up and so glad that you’re able to reminisce past recipes as well as enjoy new ones. Thank you for this kind comment!
