peach sangria

This summer, more than any other, Alex and I have been delving into signature drinks. Adding a drink pairing truly makes things more fun! Taco night is even better with frozen lime daiquiris, 4th of July is more festive with frozen sangria, and an evening on the porch more festive with frozen margaritas. So when we came into a load of peaches, of course we had to make a peach-themed drink! Meet our peach sangria recipe: lightly sweet, refreshing, and full of beautiful peaches, raspberries, and fresh mint.

Peach sangria

White sangria vs red sangria

Sangría is a traditional wine punch that originates from Spain. A classic sangria is made with red wine and chopped fruit, and often orange juice or brandy. But there are lots of sangria variations as well: peach sangria, white sangria, rose sangria, apple cider sangria, and so forth. This peach sangria recipe is a white sangria recipe, meaning that it uses white wine instead of red wine. It’s a light and refreshing spin on the classic.

How to make peach sangria

To create our rendition of peach sangria, we looked no further than our favorite Spanish chef, Jose Andres. The “Spanish” way to make sangria that Chef Jose recommends is this:

  • Mix fruit with sugar and let it macerate (stand at room temperature and break down) for 1 hour
  • Add white wine and brandy.
  • Serve with a splash of sparkling water.
  • Always, always eat the fruit!

With these instructions in mind, we created a delightfully refreshing peach sangria recipe! The result is lightly sweet and highly “drinkable”, with a hint of fruitiness from the fruit. It’s only lightly peach-y in flavor. If you are looking for a stronger flavor, use peach liqueur (like peach schnapps) instead of the brandy. It’s truly the perfect summer drink.

Easy peach sangria

Garnish with lots of fresh mint

This peach sangria uses a handful of fresh mint as a garnish. While it’s easy to pick up at the store, it’s so much easier and cheaper to grow it yourself! Alex and I grow herbs all summer long, and it’s one of the most satisfying things to run out to the garden and harvest a few herbs.

You don’t even need garden space: you can just grow herbs in pots as long as you have a sunny ledge! Adding herbs to your cooking is a healthy flavor addition, without adding calories. For our tips on growing herbs, see How to Grow Herbs.
